A recently completed build through the intense summer heat which raises all sorts of questions over soft landscaping work during the summer and how to water during our upcoming hosepipe ban. Anyhow, aside from the issues this new build garden has undergone quite the transformation. The original design included a timber arch in the centre which the client has agreed it needs to introduce height and structure to the centre of the space, frame the water feature and balance out the raised veg bed and timber screen, which adds privacy to the seating area. However small or large, everyone has a budget and sometimes garden builds have to be phased, but if you have an end plan, you have the confidence to make informed decisions when budget allows. The wildflower turf is going to look fabulous in the mini orchard and once the furniture is in position, my favourite spot would be sat on the bench, surrounded by wild flowers, watching the birds splashing in the corten steel bowl. Visited a new build garden we completed in December last year. Very hot day but the client has done a sterling job of watering and weeding and the planting is flourishing, even in the heat. They enjoy a glass of wine in the little seating area, dining at their new table and chairs and experimenting growing various veg in the kitchen garden. That’s what creating a garden is all about and they’ll enjoy for many years to come! @northhillnurseries @griffinnurseries @_londonstone @arbourlandsol #gardendesign #gardendesigner #gardendesignerhampshire #outdoorliving #gardeninspiration #newbuildgarden #plantingdesign

Great to visit the Association of Professional Landscapers stand at RHS Hampton Court Flower Show yesterday. The title of the garden What Lies Beneath aims to inform and educate visitors on the complexities involved in landscaping projects and how materials work and interact with each other. The elements on the garden are shown part built so you really get to understand the layers and build up. Always learn a thing or two! @apl_news #weareapl #bramleyapplegardendesign #rhshamptoncourtflowershow #gardendesignerhampshire #gardendesigner
Our little project was fundamentally replacing 20 year old concrete faux York stone paving (all the rage at the time and laid by hand by my husband). But I took the opportunity to think about how I could link the paving to the rest of the garden which I didn’t want to change. The clay paver paths draw the eye out into the garden and create a line of sight from inside the house. The new dining area feels like an extension of the kitchen and the clay pavers leading from the sitting room highlight the fire bowl. We used smaller format 600mm x 400mm graphite grey limestone pavers, really to suit the width of the space left by the old paving, but they really work in this design and complement the shape of the clay pavers. There was much discussion about the laying pattern of the pavers but I really wanted the stretcher bond to continue seamlessly across the space without an edging either side of the paths. The steel edging is a great way of retaining gravel and weathers to a lovely Corten rusty colour. The white limestone gravel creates the Mediterranean feel I was after for the relaxed seating area and practically reduced the number of paving cuts to keep costs down. It’s all in the detail! @_londonstone @chelmervalley @steelscapes @cedstonegroup @steelscapes #hardlandscaping #pavingdesign #claypavers #limestonepaving #gravelgardens #outdoorliving #outdoorentertaining #bramleyapplegardendesign
