Island Bed White Garden
Newbury, Berkshire
The Island Bed White Garden was designed for my clients who are inspired by their visits to Chelsea Flower Show and the white garden at Sissinghurst in Kent.
This new flower bed replaced an overgrown larger bed that was difficult to maintain as it was so wide. Furthermore, the bed was riddled with Ground Elder which is a perennial weed that is notoriously difficult to remove. In order to start again, the old bed was cleared and turfed over because the continual mowing will keep the ground elder at bay.
The new kidney shaped bed is set further forward in the garden and provides a view from the main reception rooms of the property.
The planting scheme contains a mix of perennials and bulbs, flowering throughout the seasons. The structure and winter interest, is provided by the Pittosporum tenuifolium ‘Tom Thumb’, Hebe rakaiensis and evergreen Stipa tenuissima.
