Sloping Family Garden
New Barnet, Greater London
When a garden is on a slope, it’s more difficult to make use of the space. With a family wanting to play ball games, have a trampoline and play table tennis, level areas of lawn are a key requirement.
This project tackled a large garden and the new design incorporates a raised terrace leading straight out from the new open living extension. Steps lead down to a winding granite sett path defining terraces in the garden and ending at a further seating area and site for a garden room.
From the house the lawn appears to continue seamlessly to the bottom of the garden whereas from the seating area looking back to the house, the terraces are clearly defined with corten steel edging.
A small woodland area with Betula utilis var. ‘Jaquemontii‘ trees provide screening from neighbouring buildings.
The new garden provides an attractive, practical space for all the family and the low maintenance planting will ensure the garden can be enjoyed without becoming a chore.
